Dortmund engenders excitement with its cultural riches. The museums are excellent: There is 20th century modern art in the museum "am Ostwall", a survey of priceless treasure including coins, glass, porcelain, furniture and paintings in the Museum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte (museum for art and culture), technology and social history in the Westfälischen Industriemuseum (Westphalian industry museum) and the Deutschen Arbeitsschutzausstellung (German work-protection exhibit), fossil treasures in the Naturkundemuseum (natural history museum), or the history of beer in the Brauereimuseum (museum of brewing), to name only a few.

I allow myself a respite from art in the Friedensplatz and enjoy, in summer, the piazza-like atmosphere. Or I'll relax in the Revierpark Wischlingen in the heated outdoor pool or in the solarium.

And now on to more: alone the precious altars in the four churches in the city center (St. Reinoldi, St. Marien, St. Petri, and Probstei) are worth a visit.

After the somber churches, a stop at the Rombergpark with its wonderful old trees makes a welcome contrast. Or a walk through the German rose garden in the Westfalen park, where one can see over 3,000 varieties of roses. The green spaces make Dortmund pleasant. Half of the city's 280 square kilometers are comprised of gardens, fields, and forests.

Sports fans will also find something of interest, such as watching a football (soccer) game of the top-ranked team Borussia Dortmund. Chess fans are also in the right place: the world elite meets here, among others, Garri Kasparov and Anatolo Karpow.

I can also recommend two special evening activities: a visit to the largest casino in Europe is a must, or the renowned Westfalenhalle with its world-class concerts.

For lodging, I recommend our attractive, low-priced guest rooms, - in Dortmund's private houses, of course!

We will be happy to welcome you!
